Brain Explorers 2027: Bringing Neuroscience to Our Community

October 12, 2026 · FHS Neuroscience Club

AI-MED STEM Society and the Friendswood High School Neuroscience Club are planning Brain Explorers 2027: Connecting Neuroscience, Students, and Society, a community outreach initiative for Brain Awareness Week. The collaboration aims to bring brain science beyond the classroom through conversations with experts, student-led activities, and accessible learning resources.

Student leadership, community connections

Club officers will take the lead in student engagement and event coordination, including guest speaker outreach, with guidance from teacher sponsors and existing club leadership. AI-MED STEM Society will support organizational planning, educational resources, community outreach, and grant administration.

Together, the organizations aim to connect students, families, educators, researchers, and healthcare professionals in Friendswood and the Greater Houston area. The emphasis is on curiosity, collaboration, and making neuroscience approachable for people without prior experience.

What we are planning

Meet the experts. Proposed guest talks and question-and-answer sessions would explore brain development, memory and learning, brain health, neurological disorders, research, and career pathways. Speakers are still to be confirmed.

Explore the brain. Club members would help lead hands-on demonstrations, brain anatomy activities, educational games, and models that introduce neurons, learning, and memory to different age groups.

Keep learning beyond the event. The initiative aims to share selected educational resources digitally and explore the connections between neuroscience, technology, artificial intelligence, education, ethics, and society.

Welcoming a wider community

The proposed program aims to offer free, welcoming participation for students, families, and community members, including neighboring schools and learners with limited access to scientific enrichment. Clear explanations, visual learning, and activities suited to different ages and learning styles will guide planning. Virtual access is being considered to help reduce transportation and scheduling barriers.

Looking ahead to Brain Awareness Week 2027

Brain Awareness Week 2027 takes place March 15–21. Our local event dates, venue, school approvals, guest speakers, and participation arrangements are still being developed. The initiative is seeking grant support; funding has not been awarded.

Updates on the schedule, volunteer opportunities, speakers, and how to participate will be shared here as plans are confirmed. Through Brain Explorers 2027, we hope to build a lasting student-led outreach effort that inspires scientific exploration and meaningful community engagement well beyond a single event.
