On September 8, the FHS Neuroscience Club held its inaugural meeting, welcoming nearly 20 students for an exciting start to a shared journey of discovery. Myreen Ahsan welcomed attendees and introduced the club’s vision, goals, and organizational structure, outlining how members can learn, collaborate, and contribute throughout the year.

Club sponsor Ms. Abigail Colbert provided support and encouragement throughout the launch. The meeting concluded with a brief dessert celebration, giving students an opportunity to connect and celebrate the beginning of the club.

Guided by its mission to bridge high school education with university-level neuroscience, the club will help students deepen their understanding of the brain and nervous system while developing critical thinking, scientific communication, and leadership skills. Members will work toward preparation for the Rice Brain Bee, explore student-led research and scientific publication, and connect neuroscience learning with meaningful community outreach. As International Youth Neuroscience Association Chapter USA150, the club also connects students with a wider community of young neuroscientists and opportunities for mentorship and collaboration.

Students are expected to meet on the first Tuesday of every month. These regular gatherings will provide a foundation for shared learning, project planning, and continued progress toward the club’s mission.
